A great opportunity has arisen to join an iconic British brand and a dynamic team with big plans!

We are looking for Development Upholsterers to join our G Plan Design and Development team.

We’ve been around since 1953, so we know a lot about making the perfect sofa – but we certainly don’t just sit back and rest on our laurels. We strive to improve at every opportunity, driving the business forward and evolving the brand. We are guardians of our heritage but embrace the very latest in technology and innovation.

As a key member of our Development function, you will work alongside your operational and commercial colleagues in our purpose-built Wiltshire head office and manufacturing facility. The heart of the organisation, this is where we proudly hand-make every single G Plan sofa and chair. A G Plan sofa is an investment piece and our consumers know they are buying a sofa designed with the values of enduring comfort and quality at its core.

Reporting to the Design and Development Manager you will  receive sketch and working drawings plus a brief of new product from the Design Director and be responsible for the prototype of new designs, on-time, to specification and within cost.  You will show a high standard of pattern making skills and create foam and fabric patterns for product.

Development of new products will be in line with the Design and Development strategy, ensuring they are production friendly upon launch.  You will be required to liaise with the frame department on final frame construction and liaise with the Design Director and D&D Manager throughout the development of product.  Other elements of the role are to asses new products and minimise waste, record material used for the costing of products, produce cutting lists for CAD, work with the Time Study department to conduct time and motion studies, introduce and train new products into factory and assist at furniture shows.

Key skills required within this role are:

  • Highly proficient in complicated pattern making
  • Experience in working from sketched and working drawings
  • Skilled in development upholstery
  • Strong communication skills
  • Creativity and innovation skills
  • Passion for upholstery
  • Eye for detail
  • Ability to work independently and hit deadlines

In return we offer a competitive salary and a range of benefits including 24 days annual leave plus public holidays, company sick pay scheme, company pension scheme and life assurance, cycle to work scheme, staff shopping rewards scheme, Doctorline and staff purchase scheme.
